The Mitcham Football Club always pride ourselves on looking after our own and yesterday was just another example of how our club, both Seniors & Juniors pull together in times of need.
Unfortunately, earlier this year one of our Under 12 boy’s Riley Byrnes was diagnosed with leukaemia and is currently undergoing treatment at the The Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne. As Riley has started to lose his hair the Under 12’s decided to help raise some money for the Children’s Hospital by having a “Great Shave For Riley” yesterday at half time of the Seniors match. A heap of the boys got their heads shaved to show support for their good mate.
In a packed room for the Senior after match our host Gavin Ward asked the room to dig deep for some extra support. Senior players Jarrod West, Jessie Smyth , Senior club captain Jackson Glossop and club favourite Kleiny all got up and had their heads shaved as well with help from Stephanie Pantou from Stephanie Pantou Hair Artistry and Big Ant from Blck & Brwn Barber Shop in Mitcham.
The donations came in thick and fast after Marc Parente kicked us off with a $500 donation for Jessie to shave his head. The rest of the room followed racking up in excess of $3000 to support Riley and the Children’s Hospital, a fantastic cause.
We couldn’t be prouder of our Under 12’s, our Senior players and supporters and of course our Junior club for what we saw yesterday. A great club full of great people who always have each other’s back’s.
If you couldn’t get to the game yesterday and would like to contribute you can do so via the link below.
