The Mitcham Football Netball Club are excited to announce that Senior men’s coach Neil Winterton has had his contract extended into 2023. Neil came to the club in 2015 and won a premiership in his first year at the club. Two Senior Best & Fairest’s and another premiership in 2019 would follow and now Winno holds the record as the longest serving Senior coach in the clubs proud history, 9 consecutive years.
Senior President Matt McCubbin said “We are over the moon that Winno has decided to continue on with his journey at our club. From the first day he walked through the doors he has always been extremely passionate and extremely professional and we couldn’t be happier with the person we have in charge of our young and exciting list. Darren Skinner and I went through the process a few weeks back and the feedback we received from the playing group was extremely positive. The clubs committee unanimously accepted our recommendation and we moved to lock Neil away as soon as we could.”
“The Seniors have had a rough few weeks with results not going our way but we are under no illusion there are extenuating reasons behind those frustrating losses. We still believe we are capable of mixing it with the top sides come finals once we have some stability back in our Senior side. The fact our Reserves have been unbeaten up until the weekend shows the depth we have at the club and we are confident we can turn it around quickly. Neil, Jordy and their staff have been fantastic at dealing with these availability issues on a weekly basis.”
Senior coach Neil Winterton said “ I am very excited to be reappointed for the 2023 season, I think the club has shown with our results this season that we are on the right path and that the club is in a very healthy position both on and off the field. After all the interruptions we have had over the last 2 years the playing group have embraced every challenge that has been thrown at them and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do for the remainder of the season. I want to thank Macca, Skins, Luke and the rest of the committee for the continual support and faith that they have shown in me from the minute I have walked in the door, it is because of people like them that this is a great club and a place where people want to come to play and watch footy.
The club take on Croydon away this week in what will be a crucial match for both Senior sides. We wish Neil all the best for this week the remainder of the home and away season as we look towards the 2022 finals campaign.
